The 54th Seminar 2018: A Spinning Odyssey

od·ys·sey  n. an eventful journey filled with adventure

The Ontario Handspinning Seminar is Ontario's annual three day gathering for spinners. Founded in 1964, the Seminar provides a location for spinners of all levels of experience to meet, take workshops, share their work, learn new techniques, shop and be inspired by each other.  The Seminar moves around the Province to allow easy access for all.  Each year the organizing committee selects a theme for the event and all workshops and activities focus on this main idea.  Most importantly, the Ontario Handspinning Seminar brings together our community of spinners for a weekend of creativity and collaboration.

The Seminar travels west to the city of London and returns to Western University (UWO), June 8 to 10, 2018. Join us as we explore our love of spinning and look back to our roots of using academic spaces for a weekend of learning, sharing and fun.  The organizing committee has published our annual Spring Newsletter - continue on the website to see all of the exciting details that await us in June!  Use the contact page to add your name to the mailing list (your information is only ever used for the Seminar and will never be shared with anyone else).
Please note that the online Registration window opens on April 7th to April 30th.

Spin-in à La Ferme Moore!

Fibre enthusiasts from the Ottawa and Gatineau region met at the La Ferme Moore on Saturday, January 20th for the first annual Wheels on Fire/Rouets en Feu spin-in.

The event, hosted by the Ottawa Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild, gave spinners the opportunity to practice their craft away from distractions at home, meet other spinners and shop for items produced by regional farmers and craftspeople.

There were also demonstrations of "ceinture fléchée" (arrow sash) finger weaving and the operation of an antique sock knitting machine.

The organizers hope to make this an annual fibre event for Ontario and Québec participants.

A highlight for attendees were the door prize drawings contributed by vendors and others, including two $25 gift certificates, (Jenna Croft of Pembroke), a bottle of Eucalan wool wash (Linda Perrier of Ottawa) and a premium fleece (Julie Stewart of Stittsville), all from the Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Limited in Carleton Place, ON.
