TORONTO, December 7th -- In celebration of its 10-year global anniversary, The Campaign for Wool Canada has partnered with world-renowned interior design expert Sarah Richardson and custom handmade rug designers Creative Matters Inc., in creating the first collection of 100%, handcrafted, Canadian wool rugs. The collection is now available.
Inspired by a mission to uncover the true potential of Canadian wool, the bespoke collection is designed to highlight the benefits of nature’s most important fibre—wool. Consisting of two rugs and one runner, the collection embodies the rich beauty of wool in contemporary design, demonstrating its ability to transform living spaces through its aesthetic and technical qualities. For example, wool provides softness, warmth and has been scientifically proven to clean indoor air.
?Initiated by its Patron His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, The Campaign for Wool brings together wool farmers, manufacturers, artisans and leaders in the fashion and interior design space, to advocate for wool’s inclusion in all aspects of life. The wool featured in this rug collection comes from the Briggs & Little Mill of New Brunswick, a family-owned business that has been operating since 1857.

Staff, volunteers and visitors at WindReach Farm, near Ashburn, Ontario entered into the spirit of the “Campaign for Wool” during Wool Week, with Woolly Hat Day.
Spinners, weavers, knitters, rug hookers and felters enjoyed a day to celebrate all the wonders of wool.
Wool Week Launches in Montreal & Toronto

MONTREAL – Sheep will be taking over the main floor of Ogilvy as part of a charity breakfast event launching The Prince of Wales’ Campaign for Wool in Montreal for the first time. Real sheep from a Montreal-area farm and dancers dressed as sheep from the acclaimed Bouchardanse production of Les Moutons will mix with guests gathered to celebrate the debut of Canadian Wool Week (Sept. 19 – 27) in Quebec.

Wool Week 2015 – Public Engagement and Promotion
Scheduled from Sept. 17 – Sept. 27, 2015, the second-ever Canadian Wool week will feature activities in Toronto, Calgary and Montreal.
Toronto activities will include:
- In partnership with The Royal Ontario Museum a live sheep installation (sourced from an Ontario farm) in their front plaza over the course of the museum’s “Science and Nature” family weekend. Installation to occur from Friday, Sept. 18 – Sunday, Sept. 20 and will include a media event on Sept 18 which will include a live-knitting circle in addition to the sheep.
- A “Wonders of Wool” educational exhibition in the ROM running from Sept 18-20 showcasing the Ontario/Canadian wool industry and the steps required to turning farm into fashion.
- Pop-up Wool Shop and activations at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street location including a curated pop-up wool shop with specialty Ontario and Canadian made wool items which will provide an opportunity to small Ontario/Canadian producers to showcase their products.
- Farm Meets Fashion Reception connecting wool industry players with Toronto’s media and fashion

Campaign for Wool, coming to Canada!
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
The Campaign for Wool is a global endeavour initiated by its patron, The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural and sustainable benefits offered by wool. The Campaign for Wool currently runs in 12 different countries including France, Australia, Japan and the United States.
A launch event was held in Pictou, Nova Scotia on Sunday, May 19, 2014 and included local sheep, farmers, artisans, representatives of the Canadian Wool Industry and models wearing wool designs from the Campaign’s newly confirmed founding retail partners Holt Renfrew, Joe Fresh and Pink Tartan.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring the Campaign for Wool to Canada,” says Eric Bjergso, General Manager for Canadian Cooperative Wool Growers, The Campaign’s Canadian delivery partner. “Wool is a wonder material; a sustainable fabric that supports rural economies. We are grateful to The Prince for helping to share that story with Canadians”.
Campaign activities are centered on an annual Wool Week, a weeklong festival of events and workshops celebrating wool in all its guises. Canada’s first Wool Week will debut this fall in Toronto in partnership with our founding retail partners. Specific events and timings will be announced at a later date.
Encouraging collaboration between an international community of woolgrowers, major fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, artisans and interior designers, the Campaign has been instrumental in educating consumers about the versatility of wool, and reconnecting them with its myriad uses – From luxurious fine merino knitwear to fire-retardant insulation for the home.
Since its launch in 2010, The Campaign for Wool has influenced a new demand for wool on an international scale, and its efforts have seen an outstanding threefold increase in the price farmers receive for their wool.
